Libby was truly the cornerstone of the flock after her mother, Nilla (Vanilla), passed away several years ago, and was a wonderful ambassador for Mary’s Little Lambs. She became the beloved matriarch of our flock and a sheep whose legacy will live on for generations.
Libby was more than our oldest ewe; she was a devoted mother, a gentle companion, and a shining example of the remarkable bloodline she inherited from Nilla, who lived to be nearly 20 years old. Throughout her life, Libby raised more than 40 lambs, nurturing each one with the patience and care that made her an exceptional mother.
As the years passed, Libby only grew sweeter. Her friendly nature endeared her to everyone who met her, and her beautiful wool retained the delightful crimp that reflected her strong Romney-Merino heritage. She was never one to be rushed; she also inherited a hip issue that Nilla had. You could always hear her distinctive bleat echoing across the pasture as she tried her hardest to catch up to the rest of the flock, often the last to leave the field and the last to return each evening.
Though age slowed her down, Libby's spirit remained bright. The sight of an orange peel or the familiar rattle of the grain bucket or peanuts would bring an unmistakable sparkle to her eyes and a surprising quickness to her stride. Those special treats were among her greatest joys.
For many years, Libby was the heart of our flock—a steadfast presence through changing seasons, lambing years, and countless memories. Her gentle personality, unwavering devotion as a mother, and enduring spirit touched our lives in ways that words cannot really express.
While the pasture is a little quieter without her, Libby's legacy lives on in the lambs she raised, the wool she provided, and the countless memories she leaves behind. She will forever remain one of the brightest stars of Mary’s Little Lambs.
Run free, sweet Libby. You were deeply loved, and you will be dearly missed.
